*************************************************************************** **************************** Release Notes **************************** ************************* Sonoma Version 2.1.2 ************************ *************************************************************************** Please report any problems to: Super Audio Center - 1-303-443-9855 Major New Features in Sonoma Ver. 2.1.2 --------------------------------------- 1. 32-track Support - (see User Guide Ch. 1) The Sonoma system is now configurable in systems up to 32-tracks by using additional Sonoma cards, one-card-per-eight tracks. 2. Timecode Support - (see User Guide Ch. 18) Sonoma now supports LTC timecode in both Timecode Source and Timecode Chase modes, with user-selectable offsets to maintain a timecode chain. All standard non-drop-frame (NDF) and drop-frame (DF) formats are supported. 3. Windows XP - (see User Guide Ch. 1) With the introduction of this version of the Sonoma application software, support ONLY for the Windows XP operating system comes into effect. Any users continuing to use the Windows NT operating system will need to upgrade to XP. This change is a result of withdrawal of support by Microsoft for Windows NT. 4. USB Security Key - (see User Guide Ch. 1) This version of the Sonoma application software will ONLY work in conjunction with a USB Security Key provided by Super Audio Center. You will be provided with an appropriate key, which must be in the Sonoma PC at ALL times for the application to run, either at the time of purchase or rental. Minor New Features/Changes in Sonoma Ver. 2.1.2 ----------------------------------------------- 1. User Manual overhaul The User Manual has been completely revised. The amount of changes have been so significant that the Document Change section has been dropped for this release since virtually the entire document has been re-written. You are strongly urged to read the manual even if you have been using Sonoma for some time. 2. FAT-32 File System Support - (see User Guide Ch. 1) Sonoma is now fully compatible with FAT-32 file systems in addition to the NTFS File System with which it has always worked. 3. Next Control Panel/Previous Control Panel keyboard commands - (see User Guide Ch. 2) PLEASE NOTE: the keyboard commands to switch the control panels have been changed in this version of Sonoma. The new commands are: Next Control Panel = Tab-key Previous Control Panel = Shift+Tab-key 4. Vertical/Horizontal EDL Scrolling - (see User Guide Ch. 7) It is now possible to scroll the EDL either horizontally or vertically. Moreover, vertical scrolling is also possible during Record and Playback. The keyboard commands to scroll the EDL vertically are PgUp and PgDown (which were previously used to switch Control Panels). 5. Move Nowline x Seconds to the Left/Right - (see User Guide Ch. 7) A new command moves the Nowline position a user-specified amount (x) to the left or right. An Editing Preference determines whether this command is combined with an automatic Nowline Centered in Window command to bring the Nowline to the center of the EDL Display Window. By default, centering is ON. 6. Insert Time - (see User Guide Ch. 10) To avoid unpredictable behavior, the Insert Time function now only works when either the left or both edit cursors are active. It will no longer work if ONLY the right edit cursor is active. 7. Rotate Selection Up/Down - (see User Guide Ch. 11) It is now posible to move selected ingredients up/down without having to switch to the Ingredient Editor Conttrol Panel. This new feature is made available via the Selection Menu commands Rotate Selection Up and Rotate Selection Down, or via the Keyboard Shortcuts Alt + UpArrow and Alt + DownArrow. 8. Index Mark Auto-numbering - (see User Guide Ch. 15) Index Marks inserted for SA-CD disc production are now auto-numbered from x.2, as is specified in the SA-CD Scarlet Book. In previous versions of Sonoma the first index appeared as x.1, but the first index is equal to the Track Start so the first visible index is index number 2. 9. Add Start/Stop/Index Mark commands - (see User Guide Ch. 15) PLEASE NOTE: the keyboard commands to add Start, Stop and Index Marks have been changed in this version of Sonoma. The new commands are: Add Start Mark = Shift+Enter-key Add End Mark = Ctrl+Enter-key Add Index Mark = Ctrl+Shift+Enter-key 10. DSD-IFF is default filetype - (see User Guide Ch. 19) With the introduction of this release, the default file type for newly created recordings is .dff (i.e., the file is in the industry standard DSD-IFF format). The old, proprietary .dsd file format is still supported, but users are encouraged to use .dff whenever possible. 11. Pre-roll values as small as 100 ms - (see User Guide Ch. 19) Pre-roll values used in auditions can now be as small as 100 ms (and as large as 1 minute). 12. Super-MAC support removed - (see User Guide Ch. 20) Sonoma no longer supports use of Sony's Super-MAC modules, support is only maintained for the optical data connection available on EMM Labs DSD analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converters. 13. Next Take becomes Current Take during Record The Status Bar at the bottom of the EDL Display Window shows the name of the Next Take to be created, however, when the Sonoma system goes into Record, this field temporarily changes to display the Current Take name while the Take is being created. 14. Circular Log File for error reporting In the rare case where Sonoma experiences problems, Super Audio Center may ask you to send a copy of a special log file that is created on your system that shows what Sonoma was doing just prior to the problem arising. This file can be useful to the Sonoma software developers in determining the cause of the problem. The file contains no personal information, only data related to the function of the Sonoma application. Bug fixes from Sonoma Ver. 2.0.1 -------------------------------- 1. The Make Waveforms command works correctly for DSD-IFF files not originally made on a Sonoma system. 2. The Monitor Switching operates correctly in all Monitor Switching Modes when carrying out Record Edit Region. Known Problems/Bugs ------------------- 1. Nudge Edit Cursors with transport running Holding down the keys to do repeated nudges (Nowline and left/right Edit Cursors) while the transport is running can cause the display to "flicker" and will lose the Waveform Metering. 2. Scarlet Book "PQ" data issues Max. No. Tracks on an SACD = 255. >255 tracks can be created in Sonoma with no error warnings, no flagging of mark list (*), and no change in mark color. This issue is resolved at export. Max. No. Indexes per track = 255. >255 indexes can be created in Sonoma with no error warnings, no flagging of mark list (*), and no change in mark color. This issue is resolved at export. The Total_Area_Play_Time parameter of the Scarlet Book defines the maximum playing time of a stereo or M-ch area. It has a maximum value of 255:59:74 (mins:secs:frames). This is not tested for compliance. Saving the PQ data to a file WITHOUT doing an export will NOT result in the offsets being added to the Track Starts, etc. 3. Non-linear Fades There is a graphical problem with some non-linear fades not appearing to be drawn correctly at various combinations of fade length and zoom level, for example, with a zoom window of 1,000 samples and an ingredient fade length of 500 samples (Power N fadetype). The same drawing error occurs in the Splice Editor too! 4. Linear Editing Window Management and Navigation Changing the SRC over DST/DST over SRC preference does not change the tiled view. You need to re-press F12 for the tiling order to change. 5. Ingredient Editing Accelerators Holding down keys to do multiple nudges causes the numerical values for parameters in the Ingredient Panel to NOT be updated. The graphics function correctly, however. 6. Use of F7/F8 following minimization of the SRC or DST EDL Windows appears to be generating a problem when using F7 (bring SRC EDL to front) or F8 (bring DST EDL to front) following the minimization of either. If two (or more) EDLs are open, and a SRC and DST are defined, then minimizing one will cause both windows to minimize following an F7 or F8 sequence. This problem can be triggered in many ways. The solution is to close and re-open the EDL that triggers the minimization. 7. Centering with large EDLs If Numpad 5 is used to center the nowline close to the start or end of a long ingredient, the 23:30 and 12:30 boundaries prevent the Nowline from appearing in the center of the view. Repeated keying of Numpad 5 will cause zooming to happen until the Nowline reaches the center! 8. Ingredient Gain editing A problem exists if you try to edit an exsiting adjusted gain such that a value of -0 or +0 (with or without a decimal element) is left. Sonoma will ask for a number to be entered. The leading -/+ must be removed. For example, if the gain = -0.7, you cannot simply edit out the 7 to return the gain to 0. This is a Windows problem, and cannot be solved in Sonoma.
